Michigan Coaching Search: Wolverines have discussed Dan Mullen as potential next head coach

The Michigan Wolverines may be looking towards the SEC when it comes to finding a replacement for fired head coach Brady Hoke, but it might not be LSU's Les Miles who they're targeting.

According to FootballScoop.com's Scott Roussel, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen may now be at the top of the athletic department's wishlist.

“Per sources, [interim athletic director Jim] Hackett and his staff have discussed both Jim Mora and Dan Mullen with the [Board of] Regents," Roussel reported. “Sources in Michigan that I have spoken with believe that if either Mora or Mullen were willing to come, then Hackett would support those hires.”

With the inherent limitations that Mullen's job in Starkville seems to present, a move to a program as prestigious as Michigan could make perfect sense.

“Both sources explained to me how they felt Michigan would provide a potentially easier route to the college football playoffs; and hence the opportunity to win a national championship,” Roussel said. “Said one, ‘This might have been Dan’s most talented team ever, and in a year when LSU, A&M and Arkansas were down, he still didn’t even win his division.'”
