EAST LANSING – Seated at center court of Breslin Center, with a major cable company advertisement on the base of a basket to his right, Mark Hollis is asked about the multibillion-dollar business of college sports and if athletes should be paid beyond their scholarship.

“We have some challenges that we have to fix in college sports,” Hollis said. “I’d like to see student-athletes get something — if it’s getting apartments, getting a car, if it’s being able to live. Can we do better? Absolutely.”

Michigan State’s athletic director, coach Tom Izzo and his basketball program are prominently featured on a half-hour episode HBO’s VICE, which will air at 7:30 p.
