EAST LANSING – Brian Lewerke remains the top guy in Michigan State’s open quarterback job, but he isn’t the only one running the offense right now.
Quarterbacks coach Brad Salem said both Damion Terry and Messiah deWeaver are taking snaps with the first team, and true freshman Rocky Lombardi also remains in a continuing battle to be Lewerke’s understudy.
“We have not named (a backup),” Salem said Thursday, a day before the Spartans’ second scrimmage of preseason camp. “I would say the fight right now is probably more so between Damion and Messiah. Rocky is in the mix, but we gotta see how far he’s come through the fall camp, just really being in our offense a couple weeks.
