Is that you, Bart Scott?

Nope.

But if you call yourself a sports fan (or an American), you should find yourself saying Bart Scott’s notorious two words all week- as the United States Navy prepares to turn the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson into a basketball court.

This has never been done before. It has taken years of hard work and planning, but the game between Michigan State and North Carolina that will honor the United States’ armed forces on the USS Carl Vinson is set for November 11th, Veteran’s Day. Both teams will wear unique camouflage uniforms with “USA” on the back.

Both teams seem to be very excited and they all expect the nerves to be rattling come game time. But one Spartan is nervous for another reason.

“I told Coach, I don’t know about this, man. I can’t swim. So if I like fall off the boat, I’m in trouble.” Trice is going to take his chances anyways. “It’s a big opportunity and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

“Big Game James” Worthy and Earvin “Magic” Johnson were named honorary captains for the game. Worthy was a standout at the University of North Carolina and went on to have an exceptional career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson, arguably Michigan State’s best player ever, had an All-Star career with Worthy on the Lakers. 7,000 lucky military personnel will receive invitations to the game, and tickets will not be sold to the public. Another notable invitee is President Barack Obama who is said to have ‘the seat of this choice’ on the carrier for the game.

Can’t wait!

Did I mention the USS Carl Vinson is the ship that carried Osama bin Laden’s body to sea for burial last May?

Can’t wait!

The date for this game is 11/11/11, making it even more commemorative. “The opportunity to play in such a prestigious event on a ship is a memory maker like no other,” said Coach Tom Izzo.

And it’s only the first game of the season- the one that will kick off the college basketball season. Never mind the fact that I think the Tar Heels will defeat the Spartans….by a lot. It’s just an incredible game that is going to be played at an unthinkable setting on a day we express gratitude to our armed forces. And on this day I guess it has to be go green, red, white, and blue.

If you don’t find yourself looking forward to this game as a sports fan or as an American, you better check your pulse.

Can’t wait!

Prediction: North Carolina 79, Michigan State 62
