Branden Dawson: Best Spartan Dunker?

Branden "BJ" Dawson gained more nation-wide attention with his windmill slam against Purdue.  MSU fans have seen his athleticism from his first game in the Green and White.  MSU has a lineage of great dunkers.  Dawson is great, and the windmill was impressive, but he's not the best- yet.

Dawson's Dunk if video isn't playing.

Jason Richardson isn't only the best Spartan dunker of all time, he's also one of the best in the NBA.  He and Morris Peterson (and some Charlie Bell) make for a great Mateen Cleaves assist highlight video.

Looking through that and other videos reminds me of how much Tom Izzo loves to run the alley-oop off the opening tip in the Tournament.  Fun fact for this video.  I'm actually sitting right behind Gus Johnson and Len Elmore for all the games in the 1st and 2nd round in Minneapolis.  When they would show the two announcers coming in and out of breaks I was the third person in the shot.

While Jason Richardson was the best and Morris Peterson was close to as good, Shannon Brown takes 2nd in my mind.  That kid from Penn State still has nightmares of Brown's dreads flying 5 feet over him.  I still have nightmares of those hideous silver uniforms.  Bonus video of Shannon Brown flying as a Laker.

Greg Kelser's game ending dunk in the '79 NCAA Championship was great, but my favorite dunk of all-time has to be Durrell Summers throwing down over UConn's Stanley Robertson in Ford Field in the Final Four.

Another great dunk in Spartan history would be Maurice Ager essentially tea-bagging JJ Redick for obvious reasons.

More you say?  As Dan Kilbridge told me in the podcast, 2012 commit Denzel Valentine is more athletic and explosive than ever.  This dunk is proof.  Bonus video of him dunking in Breslin last year while leading Lansing Sexton to the Class B State Championship.

Another look to get used to would be fellow 2012 commit Matt Costello dunking in Breslin.  Shades of Paul Davis, anyone (the screaming woman, not the dunk).

Finally I give you another compilation of great dunks.  There are sure to be some overlapping dunks here, but who the hell cares?
