Miami Marlins place Carter Capps on 15-day disabled list

Carter Capps was hoping to avoid a stint on the disabled list. However, he got an MRI on Monday morning, and the Marlins announced they have placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

Capps, 24, exited Sunday's 5-2 loss over the Mets in the eighth inning after just tossing 13 pitches. He left with what the Marlins called "right elbow stiffness" and was expected to be day-to-day. Over 31.0 innings with the Marlins this season, Capps has posted a 1.16 ERA and 1.05 FIP.

Brian Ellington will have his contract selected and replace Capps in the bullpen.
