Marlins to trade Casey McGehee to the Mariners?

In this Marlins trade rumors and news update, the Miami Marlins are currently fielding calls on infielder Casey McGehee, with the Seattle Mariners emerging as a potential top suitor.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "Seattle has been seeking a right-handed bat and struggling to find the right fit. The M's have been looking mostly at outfielders, such as Alex Rios, Josh Willingham, Marlon Byrd and others, and also have been talking to the Rays about Ben Zobrist. McGehee is mostly a first baseman/third baseman but can play the outfield."

McGehee has provided Giancarlo Stanton very solid protection during the Marlins' 2014 campaign. While McGehee has limited pop (two home runs entering Tuesday's action), his .322 average and 56 RBIs makes him a coveted commodity on the current trade market.

With the Marlins fading out of contention over the past few weeks, it is very possible they could deal McGehee for the right package. However, don't be surprised if the Marlins weather the trade deadline storm if they can't find a substantial return for the 31-year-old before July 31st.
