'Canes headed to Russell Athletic Bowl, likely facing West Virginia

For weeks, the expectation was that the Hurricanes would finish this season relatively close to home.

On Sunday afternoon, that expectation became reality.

Miami, which has had to travel far from sunny South Florida for each of its last two bowl games, will is headed to Orlando to play in the Russell Athletic Bowl, Hurricanes athletic director Blake James announced on Twitter on Sunday afternoon. ESPN reported the Hurricanes will face West Virginia in the game.

An official announcement of the opponent is expected later in the day.
