3 Biggest Needs For The Miami Heat This Offseason

The 2015 NBA Draft is in the books, and now it’s time for the Miami Heat to drown out all of the rumors and attack free agency with focus and purpose when July 1st rolls around. With that in mind, here’s our list of the 3 Biggest Needs For The Miami Heat This Offseason.

1. Big Man Rotation Depth

Hassan Whiteside emerged as a defensive force in 2014-15, blocking shots left and right when slashers and opposing bigs dared to cross him in the restricted area. However, his conditioning remains a question mark and he's still a liability when it comes to foul trouble. Taking to free agency and pursuing someone like Portland's Robin Lopez would be a smart tact for a team in need of depth in the paint.

2. Greg Monroe

We mentioned Lopez as one free agency option, but this is the guy we're really sold on. The Heat were connected to the Pistons center in sign-and-trade talks last year and trade rumors once again this year, and his evolving offensive arsenal and bruising work in the low post would be a perfect building block for Miami to work with going forward. In addition, they likely won't have to break the max bank for Monroe -- something that will come in handy for a team still trying to slot in-house stars into their financial plans.

With that being said...

3. Re-Sign Dwyane Wade, Goran Dragic

"We want Dwyane back. There's no doubt about that," Pat Riley said late Thursday night after the Heat finished its work in the 2015 NBA Draft. "He's been here 12 years. We've had cordial discussions with him. The one thing I learned about free agency is that when a player has an opportunity to be a free agent, I think you give him the space and time to think about that."

Wade's production may be waning a bit at 33 years old and injuries are always a concern, but he's still the face of the franchise and a key cog to Miami's current roster construction. Figuring out a way to fit him and point guard Goran Dragic into the team's cap plans is crucial to the team's hopes of locking down a top-four spot in the Eastern Conference next year.
