Maryland snaps skid with ‘next-play mentality’ in win over Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — A sense of relief emanated from the Maryland locker room after a 79-59 win over Rutgers on Tuesday evening, where a large contingent of Terrapins fans waited outside the doors to celebrate the end of a three-game losing streak. Players and coaches reveled in that support before boarding a bus to head back to College Park, where they will finish the regular season Saturday against Michigan State.

The implications of that game loom large – it will be played on senior day and could determine Maryland’s fate as a top-four seed in next week’s Big Ten tournament – but it also will be one final opportunity for the Terrapins to play in front of an Xfinity Center crowd that was stunned by back-to-back 14-point losses to Minnesota and Iowa last week.
