New Maryland baseball coach Rob Vaughn will make a base annual salary of $180,000, according to a copy of his contract obtained by The Baltimore Sun through a Maryland Public Information Act request.

Vaughn’s deal, signed June 15, is for five years. The former Terps associate head coach succeeded John Szefc, who left for Virginia Tech last month after leading the program to unprecedented success, including three NCAA tournament appearances in the past four years.

Vaughn’s salary compares to that of Szefc’s initial base pay in College Park. Szefc received a raise of nearly $100,000, from $160,000 to $251,000, in 2015 after leading Maryland to its second straight NCAA super regional.
