Maryland Terrapins Projected Starting SG To Miss 2015-16 Season

Maryland Terrapins shooting guard Dion Wiley was forced to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn right meniscus. He will miss in the neighborhood of four months, the team announced. However, that doesn't mean he'll be suiting up for the team in March if he's healthy enough to go.

Terps head coach Mark Turgeon told reporters that his projected starting shooting guard will miss the entire 2015-16 season regardless of his condition come March. Wiley will instead take a medical redshirt and retain his three years of eligibility.

"I am really disappointed for Dion because he worked so hard in the offseason and was playing at a very high level," Turgeon said. "This is a big loss for our team."

Wiley averaged 13.5 minutes per game for the Terrapins in 2014-15, playing in all 35 of their games. The former four-star recruit suffered his torn meniscus during Thursday's practice. Jared Nickens could slot in as his replacement, but the Terps will assess all their options as they look to live up to their billing as the #3 team in the Preseason AP Poll.
