Maryland baseball Coach John Szefc signs five-year contract extension

A month after he carried Maryland back to the NCAA super regional and nearly broke through to the College World Series, Maryland baseball Coach John Szefc signed a five-year contract extension on Thursday, the school announced.

While terms of the contract were not disclosed, the deal figures to keep Szefc in College Park on a long-term basis. He has revitalized Maryland since taking over the program in 2012, winning 112 games in three seasons and leading Maryland to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since 1970-1971.

The Terrapins nearly made their first trip to the College World Series last month, but were ousted by eventual national champion Virginia in the super regional.
