David Beckham gets Professional Footballers' Association Merit award

David Beckham has received the Professional Footballers' Association Merit award for his achievements for club and country.

Beckham, 41, follows former Manchester United teammate Ryan Giggs in receiving the accolade, after the ex-Wales star won the award in 2016.

Beckham won 115 senior caps for England and captained the team at the 2002 and 2006 World Cup finals. He also won the prize in 2013 when it was awarded to the 'Class of 92' -- the group of United academy players who went on to star in the first team under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Beckham, who also won the PFA's young player of the year award in 1997, said: "The PFA's such an important part of the game -- to be awarded this is special.
