Cancer didn’t stop LSU’s live tiger mascot, Mike VI, from celebrating his 11th birthday on Saturday.
Also known as Mike the Tiger, Mike VI’s official Instagram account shared several photos in honor of the occasion.
For Mike VI, his birthday Saturday was his first since he was diagnosed in May with spindle cell sarcoma, a rare and incurable form of cancer. With treatment, though, which he has since begun, it’s expected that his life will be prolonged one to two more years.
Mike VI, a Bengal-Siberian tiger mix, came to LSU in 2007 when he was two years old.
