Lakers News: Nick Young Declines Player Option, Becomes Unrestricted Free Agent

Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young had declined his player option and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

The 32-year-old young said last month that he was undecided about what he would do. He would have made $5,668,667 under his player option next season, according to Spotrac.

It remains to be seen how much interest Young will have on the open market and if the Lakers will look to re-sign him. Los Angeles would prefer to have him back on a one-year deal in order to maintain as much cap space for the 2018 offseason as possible.

Young bounced back from a disappointing 2015-16 season by averaging 13.2 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from three-point range in 25.6 minutes per game off the bench.
