Lakers Rumors: Pau Gasol says he's "unlikely" to return to Lakers

In what may be an obvious bit of Lakers rumors to some, Los Angeles Lakers star center Pau Gasol doesn't exactly like his chances of returning to the Lakers next season.

Per Lauren Moranor of Sports World Report, Pau Gasol spoke with ESPNLosAngeles.com about what the chances are that he'll return to the Lakers for the 2014-15 season -- "It's unlikely. But, I want to."

Trade rumors dogged the Lakers' veteran center throughout the first half of the 2013-14 NBA season, sometimes leading to public displays of frustration by both Gasol and teammate/friend Kobe Bryant over how Gasol was being handled by both coach Mike D'Antoni and the Lakers' front office.

Also, with an aging roster in Los Angeles which may be a year or two away from actively competing for NBA championships again, several NBA sources believe that Pau Gasol's desire to play for a contender may outweigh any desire by Gasol to remain with the Lakers.

2013-14 marks the final year of Gasol's three-year, $57 million deal with the Lakers. He has been quoted as remarking that he believes he can find similar money on the 2014 NBA free agent market.
