Popular sentiment among NBA fans is that the Los Angeles Lakers are behind the times when it comes to the use of analytics in order to improve their on court product. The Lakers ranked 29th out of 30 teams in ESPN's analytics rankings, ahead of only the New York Knicks. Lakers executive vice president of basketball operations and part-owner Jim Buss unsurprisingly takes issue with that characterization , and told Eric Pincus of the L.A Times as much in the third part of their must-read and wide ranging interview.
