Dodgers prospect Frankie Montas sidelined two to four months after rib surgery

Frankie Montas, a promising pitching prospect acquired by the Dodgers this winter, will miss two to four months of the season after undergoing rib surgery on Friday, the team announced.

Montas, a 22-year-old right-hander, suffered a stress reaction and required a rib resection to remove his first right rib. Dr. Greg Pearl performed the operation in Dallas. Montas will begin physical therapy next week at Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers dealt for Montas, along with infielder Micah Johnson and outfielder Trayce Thompson, as part of the three-team trade that sent All-Star Todd Frazier from the Reds to the White Sox.
