Derek Fisher may be the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers' cross-town rivals, but the Lakers' on-court boss still has major respect for Clippers point guard Chris Paul and the work he's done in 2014-15.
“I was thinking as I was watching a little bit earlier, I don’t know why he wouldn’t be in the MVP conversation,” Fisher said, via NBA.com.
Paul currently leads the NBA with 10.2 assists per game, making him the only player in the league averaging a points/assists double-double. Since February 7th, his assist totals have increased even more so, as CP3 is averaging 11.7 assists per game in his last 21 games.
He’s doing all this while leading the league in assist-to-turnover ratio among qualified candidates. He’s also scoring the ball at an increased rate down the stretch, posting a 21.2 points per game average over his last 21 games to bring his total up to 18.7 points per game for the season.
Add all this together and throw in the fact that Paul upped his game and held the team together for the 15 games Blake Griffin missed, and there's plenty of reason for voters to register their agreement with Derek Fisher's point of view.
