Los Angeles Angels add veteran infielder Cliff Pennington to bolster defense

Clifton Randolph Pennington- say it with a British accent and the name sounds quite regal. However, it is not baseball royalty the Angels signed to a two year, 3.75 million dollar deal this offseason. Cliff Pennington is just a journeymen infielder who is making his next stop in Anaheim. He plays 2nd and 3rd base but has most of his experience at shortstop.

Barring injury though, he won’t be seeing too much time at short though, since the Angels traded for arguably the best defensive shortstop in baseball this offseason in Anderlton Simmons. He may compete with Johnny Giavotella for the second base job but most likely will be the utility infielder for the Halo’s.
