Despite finishing 2nd again in MVP race Los Angeles Angels Trout makes history

When the vote came in on Thursday for the AL MVP race Mike Trout was playing second fiddle again as he lost out to Toronto Blue Jays’ Josh Donaldson by a vote count of 385 to 304. Donaldson finished with 23 first-place votes to Trout’s 7. The Kansas City Royals Lorenzo Cain finished a distant third with 225 points. For Trout it was his third second-place finish in four years. In 2014 Trout won the AL MVP Award in his third season. Trout’s top two finishes in the AL MVP race in his first four major league seasons is an MLB record as no one else has ever finished in the top two in the MVP race in their first four seasons.
