Bud Black rejoins Angels as special assistant to GM

Bud Black is returning to the Angels, a second coach from the World Series team added back to the organization in the last week.

Black, who was the Angels pitching coach before leaving to become manager of the San Diego Padres in 2007, was hired on Tuesday to be a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler.

Black, 58, had worked in a similar role in the Cleveland Indians front office before becoming the Angels pitching coach in 2000.

Last week the Angels re-hired Ron Roenicke, who was the Angels bench coach for the first 11 years of Mike Scioscia’s tenure as manager.
