Angels will look outside organization for GM

ARLINGTON -- The Angels will not be promoting an internal candidate as their new general manager, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Sunday. That much had been assumed for a while, but the club has officially informed assistant GMs Matt Klentak and Scott Servais, as well as director of pro scouting Hal Morris, all of whom were interviewed.

Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler is still believed to be the odds-on favorite for the job, though the Angels probably wouldn't announce him as their new GM until after the Yankees' final postseason game.

Another interesting name to monitor is Dodgers senior vice president of baseball operations Josh Byrnes, the only one among the Angels' known external candidates who has prior experience as a GM.
