LEXINGTON, Ky. – If John Calipari is looking for more "desperation," he is watching the wrong team.

His Kentucky Wildcats are capable of picking up their pace, of applying more pressure, of flinging themselves after loose balls heedless of bodily harm. They are capable of playing college basketball with something approximating urgency.

What they don’t do as readily is panic. What they don’t do is look at a 19-point deficit and believe themselves beaten. If Calipari is to persuade his players that their approach deserves reproach, that inconsistent effort invites defeat in the NCAA tournament, he’s going to need a better example than Tuesday night’s 73-67 victory over Vanderbilt.
