Thanks, Topeka: Hall of fame inductees praise community at annual sports awards banquet

Thursday was a night of celebration as the Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council inducted Jocelyn Bentley, Mark Elliott and Gary Woodland into its hall of fame and paid tribute to dozens of recent high school graduates who helped make the 2016-17 sports year memorable.

But the real winner was Topeka itself.

What more than 300 attendees at Maner Conference Center learned during the annual awards banquet was that our community played a huge role in supporting and shaping each of the inductees’ lives.

Elliott, the multi-sport standout from Silver Lake who continues to excel in golf today at the age of 57, talked trash like only he can.
