Kansas quarterback Michael Cummings will need surgery after suffering a left knee injury on Saturday during the spring game, KU football coach Deavid Beaty said Monday in a news release.

No timeline was given on when the surgery would be or how long Cummings would be out for.

“Following his surgery he will work diligently, alongside our medical staff, to get back to the field as quickly as possible,” first-year coach Beaty said.

Beaty said he had reviewed the film from the injury and called it “a complete freak accident.”

He said Michael Glatczak — who made the tackle on Cummings — had his back to the action for most of the play as he was blocking down field.
