3 Marquee Free Agents The Royals Could Actually Sign

You'll hear plenty of trade rumors swirling around the Kansas City Royals this offseason, with about 90% of those likely to be greatly exaggerated. However, any and all Royals News or rumors surrounding these next 3 free agents is at least worth some of your attention. Here's our list of 3 Marquee Free Agents The Royals Could Actually Sign This Offseason.

LHP Scott Kazmir

The Royals likely won't be able to bring back Johnny Cueto; his price is simply going to be too high for the defending World Series Champions. A pitcher like Kazmir, however, is in their price range. The veteran lefty's price is going to be brought down by past shoulder problems and a rough finish to his season. However, he's a solid pitcher that would be a big boost to the Royals. He's no Cueto, and might not exactly be "marquee," but he'd be a welcome addition.

OF Alex Gordon

It's not clear just how much Gordon is going to fetch on the open market, but the Royals want to bring him back. Gordon declined his 2016 option and elected to become a free agent. At 31, this might be Gordon's last shot for a hefty contract. The Royals rarely give out big contracts, but that might change for Gordon. He wants to return, but also wants to get paid. One report states Gordon is likely to get a 3-year deal worth around $38 million. If that's the case, he'll likely be back with the Royals. If it's substantially more than that, Gordon might be playing elsewhere next season.

INF Ben Zobrist

Zobrist is baseball's human Swiss army knife. He can play multiple positions, gets on base and has some power. He was a big piece of the Royals' title run and the team wants him back. Zobrist likes playing for Kansas City and even named his daughter after the team. But much like Gordon, there is the issue of cost. Zobrist could command a three-year, $50 million dollar deal and the Yankees reportedly want Zobrist. The Yankees have a larger checkbook than the Royals, but Zobrist might be willing to take a slight discount to stay in Kansas City.
