The Jaguars might be without their best offensive player for the first three games of the season.
Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell confirmed a report by ESPN during a conference call with reporters on Monday that tight end Julius Thomas might need surgery on his broken right hand.
Caldwell said a realistic scenario if Thomas needs surgery on his hand, broken in the preseason opener against Pittsburgh on Aug. 14, would have him missing the first three games and returning for a Week 4 game at Indianapolis.
Caldwell said Thomas is getting a second opinion on Tuesday to determine if surgery is the best option.
