Gene Frenette: History shows the No. 3 pick can produce results

If recent history is any indiction, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell might want to hang on to the No. 3 overall draft pick instead of trading down, unless somebody makes him an offer too good to resist.

From 1980 to 2010, players selected in that third slot have mostly lived up to the hype as 18 of 31 made a minimum three Pro Bowls, including Hall of Famers Anthony Munoz (offensive tackle, 1980) and Barry Sanders (running back, 1988). Two receivers, Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald, made a combined 15 Pro Bowls and will certainly get Hall of Fame consideration.
