Blake Bortles Named Starter In Jacksonville, Henne Now Backup

Jaguars news became NFL news in the span of one halftime on Sunday, with first-round draft pick Blake Bortles taking over the reins for the Jacksonville Jaguars after the break.

After electrifying the crowd at EverBank Stadium on Sunday in the second half of the Jaguars' 44-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Blake Bortles will ride his NFL debut to a full-on starting role going forward.

Per Eric Edholm of Yahoo! Sports, "head coach Gus Bradley said after the game that despite the rookie's up-and-down game, he had seen enough from Bortles (14-of-24 passing, 223 yards, two TDs, two INTs) to announce that he'd be starting next week against the San Diego Chargers."

After leading the Jags to a field goal on his second NFL drive, the Jacksonville faithful gave him a standing ovation - despite the fact that the team was still down 30-3.

However, that was enough for Jaguars fans who had watched their team go without a first down under now-former starting quarterback Chad Henne (4-of-7, 33 yards).

All of this adds up to a flipping of the team's depth chart, with Bortles the man going forward and Henne the backup. Per John Oehser of the O-Zone, Gus Bradley knows just what Bortles can bring both athletically and from a rooting-interest standpoint:

Bortles' first NFL start will be next Sunday in San Diego against the Chargers.
