2014 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Select Blake Bortles

With the third pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected QB Blake Bortles out of the University of Central Florida.

Position: Quarterback

Measurables: 6’5”, 232 lbs, 32 7/8” arm length, 9 3/8” hands

Blake Bortles is just the second Central Florida quarterback (after Daunte Culpepper) to post 3,000 yards passing or more multiple times. He was the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2013, going 259-for-382 for 3,581 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Bortles boasts a 32.5 inch vertical leap and a 115 inch broad jump, both good for third-best amongst quarterbacks at the NFL Combine.

Blake Bortles has the ideal size and mobility to be an NFL quarterback, using his natural stature to shed tacklers both in and out of the pocket. Bortles is extremely advanced from an eye-movement perspective, able to scan the entire field for secondary and tertiary options when the pocket breaks down. Bortles delivers the ball with good velocity, showing immense fortitude in the face of pressure while still delivering an accurate ball on the run. He also has the ability to be downright explosive on designed quarterback runs.
