Men’s Basketball: Small-ball takes ISU to Emerald Coast Classic title

NICEVILLE, Fla. - As much as Iowa State has been an up-tempo, space-and-pace team early in the Steve Prohm era, the Cyclones haven’t played much small ball. That changed to successful effect Saturday evening.

Fourth-ranked ISU unleashed a rarely-seen super-small lineup to pull away from a feisty Illinois squad and claim an 84-73 victory to win the championship of the Emerald Coast Classic with two wins in two days on the campus of Northwest Florida State College.

“I told the guys in the locker room any time you win a championship at this level,” Prohm said, “is a special thing.
