Sunderland 2-1 Leicester City: Defoe fires Black Cats off the bottom

Sunderland moved off the bottom of the Premier League table thanks to a 2-1 victory over Leicester City at the Stadium of Light.

The hosts took the lead on 64 minutes, Victor Anichebe’s header deflecting off Robert Huth and into the back of the net for the opener.

Sunderland were then denied what looked a certain penalty moments later. Patrick van Aanholt burst into the penalty only to be tripped by Danny Simpson but the referee waved claims away.

However, Jermain Defoe then added a second with a little over 10 minutes to go, firing home from close range after Watmore’s shot had been blocked.
