Report: Gruden turns down Colts' job

ANDERSON — Jim Irsay reportedly swung big. And missed.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday the Colts owner made overtures to Jon Gruden about becoming the team's head coach, but those efforts were rebuffed.

Gruden coached the Raiders and Buccaneers from 1998 to 2008, winning Super Bowl XXXVII following the 2002 regular season — his first with Tampa Bay. The 53-year-old has been a color analyst on "Monday Night Football" since 2009 and has repeatedly turned down offers to return to the sideline.

Schefter's report followed weeks of rumors swirling around Indianapolis. Irsay has remained silent since his team completed a second consecutive 8-8 season and missed the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since 1997-98.
