Illini earn national seed, date with Ohio

CHAMPAIGN — Forty-seven wins.

A consensus top-five national ranking in the final weeks of the regular season.

The Big Ten regular-season title.

A 27-game winning streak.

Illinois’ résumé heading into the NCAA tournament was strong. It was enough to secure a No. 1 seed and the right to host a Regional on Sunday night. A 2-2 finish in the Big Ten tournament, though, might have created some question about the Illini’s chances for one of those top-eight national seeds.

That was erased late Monday morning when Illinois was selected as the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament, securing home-field advantage through the Super Regional round.
