Best of Illini: No. 10, Chayce Crouch

No. 10: Chayce Crouch, QB

Why he’s important: He’s a play away from directing the Illinois offense. Given Wes Lunt’s injury history and difficulty staying on the field during his college career, Crouch could see the field this season — and not just in mop-up time. Tim Beckman hasn’t shied away from playing multiple quarterbacks before. But the Illinois coach has made it clear since mid-January that Lunt is the Illini starter, with Crouch in the backup role. Crouch received his share of reps with the starters this spring and performed well when playing with the starting unit during the spring game.
