Texans give J.J. Watt the day off

Days removed from an uncharacteristically quiet performance in a loss to the New England Patriots, Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt was given a day off from practice Monday.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was effectively neutralized by the Patriots' blockers during a 27-0 loss. He was knocked down at least a few times and was rendered a non-factor throughout the game.

Watt had just two tackles and zero quarterback hits Thursday night.

Watt is still shedding rust since undergoing offseason back surgery, but had a resurgent game last week against the Kansas City Chiefs when he recorded 1 ½ sacks and a fumble recovery.
