The Houston Chronicle's John McClain chimed in on the speculation that Texans star J.J. Watt could miss part of the regular season after having back surgery this week.

"Fact is, nobody knows beyond a shadow of a doubt," McClain said.

According to McClain, doctors performed back surgery on Watt on Tuesday in Houston, and the doctors told the Texans if everything goes smoothly and there are no setbacks during his rehabilitation, then Watt would be ready to go for the season opener against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 11.

Watt played through a herniated disc last season along with a broken hand and several torn groin muscles that required postseason surgery.
