North Shore grad Johnathan Motley signs with Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have signed undrafted free agent Johnathan Motley to a two-way contract, according to a tweet by the Vertical's Shams Charania Saturday.

Despite being a projected second-round pick, the 6-9 power forward was passed up Thursday, red-flagged because of a knee surgery this past spring.

The Houston native and North Shore High School alum averaged a team-high 17.3 points and Big 12-best 9.9 rebounds per game in his junior season at Baylor.

Two-way contracts are new to the NBA this year and allow teams to retain the rights of a 16th and 17th man on their roster while they play in G-League.
