Rockets Rumors: Houston's 3 Biggest Offseason Needs Are...

The Houston Rockets have emerged as one of the best teams in the NBA with James Harden playing at a MVP-caliber level, but they still have some holes to fill if they want to remain there for the foreseeable future. What needs will they try to address this offseason?

1) Find a true backup center

Dwight Howard is at a point in his career where you can't expect him to be healthy for a full 82 game season. Joey Dorsey has proven to be a capable role player, but Houston needs someone who's more of a fill-in starter than a role player. Expect the Rockets to go after someone like Brandon Wright in free agency.

2) Find a backup point guard

Jason Terry will be a free agent after this season, and Pablo Prigioni is just a few years shy of 40. Patrick Beverley (who is a restricted free agent) has cemented himself as Houston's starting point guard and will likely be re-signed, but Houston needs to find someone they can rely on to run their offense off the bench. They could re-sign Terry, but if they don't, expect them to pursue Jameer Nelson or Norris Cole.

3) Re-sign Josh Smith

Smith was never able to find his groove as a member of the Detroit Pistons, but he's been a steady contributor as a sixth man for the Rockets. He has the versatility to play all three frontcourt positions and is a perfect fit for Houston's up-tempo system. Smith won't receive a lot of opportunities on the open market, so the Rockets should be able to re-sign him to a team-friendly deal.
