Astros’ depth and speed game will come to the forefront as postseason looms

Manager A.J. Hinch and his coaching staff have some serious chess to play, even in the American League.

September’s deep roster and a known proclivity for running will bring the Astros’ strategic ability to the forefront as the season winds down.

With the additions of George Springer and Michael Feliz on Friday, the Astros active roster moved to 31. Tony Sipp (back/oblique) is active but injured and undergoing further tests, while Scott Feldman too is active and unavailable following a right shoulder injury. But with a couple more minor league players due up eventually — plus the expected return of Jason Castro from the disabled list, Hinch has no shortage of choices.
