Astros Trade Rumors: Chris Carter to be used as trade chip?

In today's Astros trade rumors and news update, one Houston Astros blogger believes the time is now to trade designated hitter Chris Carter.

According to Rant Sports' Lucas Davis, "Carter has gotten hot as of late, and he isn’t in the long-term plans for the Astros. It is the perfect time to try and move him. The Astros should be able to get some bullpen help, which they desperately need, for Carter’s power bat. There is no reason to think he could fetch anything substantial, but the Astros don’t need substantial; they need consistent."

Carter's pop does add some value to his prospects as a trade chip, but the Astros would need to be relatively open to the options presented to them in potential trade scenarios. While is 19 home runs and 40 RBIs could be enticing, his .205 batting average makes him a gamble for prospective trade suitors.

With the team in the midst of a long-term rebuilding project, the Astros could very well look young in a deal involving Carter - picking up a prospect that can add to their glut of talent working its way up the farm system.
