Astros Rumors: Houston meets with Scott Boras regarding INF Stephen Drew

The Houston Astros have had preliminary discussions with free-agent infielder Stephen Drew's agent, Scott Boras, regarding a potential fit between the two parties in free agency.

Boras confirmed the meeting (per MLB Trade Rumors) without mentioning any particular names:

“We’ve had meetings and talked and we have bullpen guys and the infield and outfield guys, so we’ve had some general conversations.  They’re kind of in a fluid state on their position players, but…we have some guys that may be some fits there.”

The Houston Astros have retooled their bullpen this offseason, picking up both Luke Gregerson and Pat Neshek off the free-agent market. With that part of their winter wishlist now complete, the Astros now turn to finding talent to plug in on the infield.

Stephen Drew could represent an intriguing fit, despite hitting a miserable .162 in 85 games between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. The Astros could very well bank on a return to form for the veteran, who is still only 31 years old and  a solid defensive middle infielder to boot.
