For the last three years, NFL Network has put together a list of the NFL's top 100 players in the league as voted on by their fellow peers. The Green Bay Packers have become less represented since the inaugural year of "The Top 100," but that figures to change in 2014 and beyond. Jordy Nelson and Eddie Lacy were unveiled this week as the 83rd and 90th best players respectively in the league last year.
Nelson is coming off a 2013 season in which he set career highs in receptions (85) and yards (1,314) despite playing with four different starting quarterbacks. His peers Josh Gordon of the Cleveland Browns and Ike Taylor of the Pittsburgh Steelers highlighted his deceptive speed, energy and professionalism as the key assets of Nelson's game.
Lacy was one of only three rookies that will appear on "The Top 100" this year according to NFL Network. His 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns carried Green Bay to the playoffs when Aaron Rodgers missed extended time with a broken collarbone. He barely came in ahead of fellow NFC North running back Matt Forte (No. 91).
Since the show's inception following the Green Bay Packers' Super Bowl XLV victory, the number of Packers that appear on the list have gone down from seven in 2011 to just two in 2013. Those two last year were Aaron Rodgers, who fell from number one in '12 to six, and Clay Matthews (No. 31). With Rodgers and Matthews far from candidates to fall off the list, expect at least four total Packers on this year's edition of "The Top 100," which airs Wednesday nights on NFL Network at 9 p.m. ET.
