Packers Rumors: Re-signed free agent RB Michael Hill putting past behind him

This week, the Packers rumors cycle has spent a lot of time this week focusing on the re-signing of running back James Starks. For good reason, mind you, as Starks and incumbent starting running back Eddie Lacy make for one of the most potent one-two running back punches in the NFL.

However, a lesser-known running back who also received an invitation to return from the Green Bay Packers is ready to enter his name into the conversation.

Speaking with Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, running back Michael Hill is ready to make the absolute most of any opportunity the Green Bay Packers are willing to present to him--

“Hopefully I get the chance in preseason to get some carries and show what I got, show what I can do on the field,” Hill stated, “as well as special teams and try to earn that 53-man roster and earn a role on the team, an active role in the offense and special teams.”

Hill has had a checkered start to his NFL career, as the undrafted running back out of Missouri Western State was bounced from a role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being arrested for resisting arrest and failing to obey officers' orders -- charges Hill says were a case of “wrong place, wrong time," as he was attempting to help a friend who was in the process of being arrested.

“I was trying to go up there to tell them he didn’t do anything," Hill said. "Supposedly, I got too close and that’s when [the police] engaged and tried to tackle me. That’s when I got arrested. The charges were taken down to a disturbance.”

Despite all of this, the Packers gave him a chance to catch on with their practice squad. He was eventually called up to the main squad for a couple of games in 2013.

Grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to the 2014 NFL season, Hill knows that he has to make the most of what could be a fleeting chance with the Green Bay Packers --  "You don’t have much time in this league as a running back. They can bring in another guy any time in the draft or a free agent or pick up an older guy who’s a vet. You just have to be prepared at every moment.”
