The Green Bay Packers were only a few minutes away from reaching the Super Bowl this past season, and will be looking to upgrade their roster through the draft to ensure they get over that hump and get to the Super Bowl in 2016. Here are the players they’re targeting to help make that happen:
TE Maxx Williams, Minnesota
Even with Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb serving as premier outside threats, they need to give Aaron Rodgers a big weapon he can use over the middle of the field. Richard Rodgers has potential, but Andrew Quarless has been inconsistent. Williams is the best tight end in the draft, and the Packers could take him in the first or second round.
LB Denzel Perryman, Miami
Green Bay’s linebacking core is in need of inside depth and help stopping the run. Add in a blue-chip prospect, and the Packers could post top-ten finishes in rushing and passing yards allowed next season – putting them in great shape in their quest to make their way back to the Super Bowl. Perryman doesn’t have elite speed or athleticism, but his strength, acceleration, and instincts have drawn comparisons to London Fletcher.
DT Eddie Goldman, Florida State
The 6’3″, 320-pounder has anchored the Seminoles’ defensive line for the past few seasons, forcing double teams and stopping the run. Goldman may the biggest upside of any lineman in the draft as he has the size, strength, and quickness to be disruptive in all phases of the game, but there are questions surrounding his consistency and work ethic. If Green Bay decides to pass on Williams in the first round, Goldman would be their next choice.
