Mike McCarthy: Johnathan Franklin "Will Not Be Back With Us"

Green Bay Packers HC Mike McCarthy has announced in a press conference that second-year RB Johnathan Franklin will not continue his NFL career with the team.

Franklin suffered a season-ending neck injury in Week 12 of last year, and hasn't played since. Rumors surfaced earlier this week that Packers doctors privately feared the injury could prevent Franklin from playing football going forward, and it appears those fears were justified.

In eleven games last season, Franklin rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown. Although Eddie Lacy was seen as Green Bay's running back of the future, Franklin flashed impressive potential and the team intended to hang on to him.

Franklin will be released by the Packers on Friday, and it appears his NFL career is over. The player confirmed the news on his personal Twitter account, posting a heartfelt message to fans:
