Instant Reaction: Packers Dominate Bears 55-14 on Sunday Night Football

It was one of the ugliest Sunday Night Football games in recent memory, and everything that could have gone wrong for the Bears did. The game was effectively over midway though the second quarter with the Packers leading 42-0 at halftime, and Aaron Rodgers threw six first-half touchdowns to tie an NFL record.

Turning Point:

This one was over early in the second quarter when Aaron Rodgers found Jordy Nelson on back-to-back touchdown passes less than three minutes in. The Bears defense had looked shaky before the Packers went up 28-0, but at that point they looked like they'd rather be anywhere else.

Packers MVP:

Hey Packers fans: when Aaron Rodgers tells you to relax, you should probably trust him. Rodgers put together another stunning performance with an NFL record-tying six touchdown passes in the first half, and he could have broken the single-game record with ease if Mike McCarthy hadn't pulled him for Matt Flynn early in the third quarter. Rodgers finished 18/27 for 315 yards, 6 TDs and no INTs...in just over half an hour of action.

On the Hot Seat:

This Bears team has far too much talent to be this abysmal, and that starts and ends with HC Marc Trestman. Trestman's seat was already getting toasty after Chicago's uninspired recent play, but this result - against a rival in prime time - will turn up the temperature in a big way. At this point, it would take nothing short of a miracle to put him back on the sidelines in Chicago next year.

Stat of the Night:

In the first half, Packers WR Jordy Nelson had 36 more yards of offense than the entire Chicago Bears team.

Random Trivia Fact of the Night:

The last time a team gave up 50+ points in back-to-back games (the Rochester Jeffersons back in 1923), Al Davis wasn't even born yet.

What's Next?

The 3-6 Bears will try to get their season back on track with a home game against Minnesota, and they'll need to forget about this one in a hurry. The 6-3 Packers will host Mark Sanchez and the Eagles as they try to improve their playoff position.
