After strong pitching performances from Eli Morgan and Justin Vernia on Thursday and Friday, Daniel Bies struggled to get anything going against the Cougar hitters. BYU jumped on the redshirt sophomore early and often in a win-or-go-home game for the Cougars.
Following singles from both Brennon Anderson and Daniel Schneeman, Tanner Chauncey kicked off the scoring with a three run homer to left field.
The Zags would quickly respond in the top of the second when Jake Roberts doubled home Justin Jacobs and later scored on a wild pitch from BYU starter Jordan Wood, cutting the Cougar lead in half at 4-2.
